Home
Home is an ongoing body of work Katika started mid 2018, the aim is to articulate different concepts of home through a visual means.
There are undoubtedly many different ways to think about home and an array of socio-economic reasons one speaks about their concept of home the way they do.
Katika initiates discussions with many individuals both known to her and strangers and asks them to express their version of what home meant to them.
The outcome has been astounding and fascinating and has informed this body of work.
In her works on home she uses memory and old photographs as references to create layered images on recycled wood panels. The application takes a long time as her technique involves a monotonous movement of one directional lines. With high quality watercolour pigment, Katika follows the grain of the wood and honours it's natural beauty.
During this process, Katika takes time to reflect and meditate on Home and what that means.
If you would like to add to her collection of concepts please email Katika on the contacts page on this site. Your concept of home will be added to the book below.

Weaving and stitching are worldwide human activities, throughout all cultures skills have been handed down generation to generation. Whilst making, one tells stories, relives memories, lays down the law to the younger generation and sets intentions towards the future… the cloth weaving absorbs these like it’s forming a soul.
Ceremonial cloth is loaded with culture, intended for initiations of life.
In a contemporary setting, cloth wraps our bodies, beds and windows, like the shell of a tortoise.
It protects us, we sentimentalise it and we create memories in it.
Cloth is one layer to the concept of home, an art form, a heritage, in comfort and symbology.
